Fragrance love comes and goes . Fickle is the word...one day I love it and the next day I don't ! Sometimes I blame it on my body chemistry , my mood , the weather . Maybe reformulation , time , bad storage...who can say for sure why the nose does what it does .
I wore YSL Paris for seven years . It was the only fragrance I owned at that time ! While unbelieveable to me now , I was faithful to Paris and loved it dearly all throughout the 80's .
I always carried the cut glass purse spray . One day it disappeared ( I faintly remembered a funny noise as I got out of my car and in retrospect figured out the bottle must have been in my lap and fallen to the curb ). I never replaced it , but went on a long quest to find another " signature scent..."
A fragrance fanatic was born , as the internet surged and access to perfume reviews became easier . I had to smell EVERYTHING .
Is it possible to love a scent for a lifetime ( reformulation aside ) ?
There are very few fragrances that stay true love for me . But there are a few . Guerlain Sous le Vent is one - it came to me as a sample ( from whom ? I dunno ! )and was love at first sniff !! I procured a decant or two , and always wanted a full bottle . Then the news of reformulation , maybe even disconuation and , well you know . I HAD to have more...I bought a full bottle of the recent formulation in that beautiful Art Deco bottle , and I also swapped for an older partial bottle . They are not the same . The base of the older formula is just beautiful and much longer lasting . The newer bottle is pretty , if a little more sharp , and has been stripped of it's gorgeous base , lasting about an hour on skin . *sigh* When my older stuff is gone , I will still dab on the newer scent and " be reminded " of what used to be...
I still hope to procure more of the older , and may even spring for a vintage bottle , I'm sure it doesn't resemble ANY of the formulations I have smelled .
Another scent I loved at first sniff is Robert Piguet Baghari . I own EDP and parfum . I much prefer the parfum , but in warm and sunny weather the EDP always makes me smile , being a sucker for aldehydes . Andy Tauer Miriam reminds of it , but Miriam is just *too much* !
Then there is By Kilian Taste of Heaven . Lavender ? I was so surprised to love this !! I don't actually wear it often , but love to sniff the little decant and sigh . One of these days I'm going to buy a bottle of real absinthe , we have some artisan distillers in the Seattle area who make the tradfitional "Green Fairy"...
Others I have loved from first sniff -
Aftelier Pink Lotus
Aftelier Parfum de Maroc
DSH Vintage Patchouly
Roja Dove Diaghilev
Prada Exclusives #1 Iris parfum
There are probably more I will think of later . With Valentines Day approaching , tell me what are your true loves ( in perfume that is...) ?
